For the purpose of promoting health, safety, morals and the general welfare of the county, the board of county commissioners of each county in the state, shall appoint a commission of three or more members, the total membership of which shall always be an uneven number and at least one member of which shall be a member of the board of commissioners, to be known as the county planning commission. Such commission shall also be the county zoning commission.
The term of each of the appointed members of the county planning commission shall be for three to five years as the board of county commissioners may provide.
To carry out the purposes of county planning and zoning, the board of commissioners may employ a planning director and inspector or either of them and such staff as it deems necessary; or the board may contract with a planning agency, authority, or commission, or with planning consultants, or with other specialists for such services as it requires.
